Take a look at "What is Menstruation"

Menstruation, also called menses, is a normal part of being a healthy female of reproductive age. During menstruation, the lining of a woman's uterus is shed, resulting in blood and tissue being expelled from the body. Menstruation process undergoes each month by female reproductive system when a woman is not pregnant.

Types of Menstrual Disorders

  • Painful Cramps (Dysmenorrhea)
Periods can sometimes give very painful cramps called Dysmenorrhea. Cramps occur when your uterus contracts as periods begin, which is normal during periods. Some medical issues like fibroids, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis can be the reason for this extremely painful menstruation.
  • Heavy Bleeding (Menorrhagia)
Another common menstrual problem is a heavy period, which is also called Menorrhagia. Heavy periods cause you to bleed more than normal, like longer than the average of five to seven days.
  • Absence of Menstruation (Amenorrhea)
In some cases, women may not get their periods and that condition is called Amenorrhea. When you don't get your first period by age 16, then it is said to be primary amenorrhea, which may be caused by an issue with the pituitary gland, or defect with female reproductive system, or a delayed puberty. And when you stop getting your regular periods for six months or more, then it is secondary amenorrhea.
  • Light or infrequent menstruation (oligomenorrhea)
It refers to the menstrual period which occurs more than 35 days or more. It is generally not a cause for the concern, except if the periods occur more than 3 months apart.

Infertility Is No More A Barrier With IVF Treatment

In Vitro Fertilization is the modern technology for treating infertility, Unlike the simpler process of artificial insemination -  in which an egg and sperm are fertilized in the laboratory and then deposited into the uterus with essential growth conditions.

IVF Procedure

Step 1: Ovulation induction
Before the in vitro fertilization process, fertility specialist will monitor ovaries and the timing of the egg release. The doctor will make sure that your ovaries are producing eggs, and that your hormone levels are normal, among other procedures.

Step 2: Egg retrieval
During this step, pain medication is given to reduce any discomfort. Then a thin needle is passed through the upper vaginal wall. With the use of vaginal ultrasound, fluid is removed from the follicles under gentle suction.

Step 3: Fertilization
Either from your partner or a donor, a sperm sample is secured, and the most active sperm is mixed with the egg in a special chamber. Sometimes the sperm is directly injected into the egg. Then, the sperm and egg are placed in an incubator and monitored to make sure that a healthy embryo develops.

Step 4: Embryo transfer and Implantation
One or a few healthiest embryos are transferred into the uterine cavity for the development. That’s how the IVF treatment is completed. Rest of the embryos is preserved for any future requirement.

IVF success rates ??

IVF does boast rather good success rates. At times, however, miscarriage may still occur with IVF. The miscarriage rate following IVF treatment is generally the same as occurs in the general population, and the risk increases with the mother’s age. Miscarriage rates typically range from about 15 percent for a 20-year-old woman to over 50 percent for women over 40.
